Spa Source La Roche-posay

Visited in March. Not over crowded. We have literally been to over 100 spa's. (We even owned one for over 12 years.) One of the best we have ever visited. View of the ocean/bay from the pool is unsurpassed. A mature, professional staff. Top notch facility. Prices reasonable. Surrounding town (tons of shops, pasteries, etc.) is a great compliment to this experience.

Nice place with friendly staff but if you are used to Nordic standards then this place is overpriced and under standard, like most places of this type in France. The sauna is hot but small and there is only one room, at this price one expects a larger variety of saunas. Clients enter wearing flip flops which should be left outside. Clients are also required to wear trunks / swim suits, naked sauna is not possible unfortunately, this seems to be the rule in France anyway. Hot steam room and sauna do not smell of wood / essential oils unfortunately they are very plain and standard. There are no exterior facilities even the outside terrasse is difficult to find, not allowing for cooling down after a hot sauna or steam bath. This should definitely be implemented in the future as the gardens are nice and could easily serve this purpose. The pool room looks nice but there is no acoustic treatment every sound is amplified, clients chatting, water splashing etc ... it gives the place the feeling of your local swimming pool. Better acoustics are expected at this level and even council run pools have acoustic treatments today. Clients also chat loudly in all spaces including the sauna and hot steam room not allowing for full relaxation. Changing rooms are much too small the men’s room only allows for 3 or 4 at a time. Toilets are hard to find and scarce. In all shower spaces and in the changing rooms one expects there to be Roche Posay products available to use and to test. This is not included and should ready be in the offer considering the price. It would be a great way to discover their products other than in the shop at the reception. The restaurant area was not attended during the afternoon, the room felt empty and had more of a canteen feeling to it, and still smelled of the lunch served earlier. This space should be serving drinks and snacks all day. The massage was great with water and oil the masseur was very good. But 1h is expected rather than 40-45minutes for a massage of this type that takes a little time to get into. I live in France and will be visiting the region again. I will come back nevertheless. I’m hoping that one day French spas will raise their standards to that of their Northern European counterparts. This place definitely has the potential to. Pour un établissement Français c’est tout à fait habituel mais cela reste loin du niveau des spas nordiques. L’établissement est assez désuet et mériterait un rafraîchissent et un peu de dynamisme. De nombreux détails permettraient l’établissement qui a un bon potentiel de s’améliorer et d’être à la hauteur de ces lieux de référence Nordiques ... et aussi à hauteur de sa politique de prix que je trouve actuellement exagérée.
